StartupFeed Quick Take

  • India’s October GST collection hit Rs 2,31,290 crore, up 22.9% from a year ago.
  • Net GST, after refunds, rose faster at 25.6% to Rs 2,03,356 crore.
  • Import GST jumped 42.2% to Rs 72,246 crore, the fastest-growing part.

India’s gross GST collection reached Rs 2,31,290 crore in October 2026, up 22.9% from a year earlier.

That is Rs 43,165 crore more than the Rs 1,88,125 crore collected in October 2025. The Finance Ministry released the provisional figures on November 1.

Net GST, the figure left after refunds, grew even faster. It rose 25.6% to Rs 2,03,356 crore, up from Rs 1,61,900 crore a year ago.

October GST Collection: Where It Came From

Domestic revenue did most of the work. It rose 15.8% to Rs 1,59,044 crore during the festive month.

Imports told the sharper story. GST on imported goods jumped 42.2% to Rs 72,246 crore, up from Rs 50,796 crore.

By component, Central GST rose to Rs 42,935 crore from Rs 36,547 crore. State GST reached Rs 51,340 crore, up from Rs 45,134 crore. Integrated GST totalled Rs 1,37,015 crore.

Refunds were the one slow-moving number. They rose just 6.5% to Rs 27,934 crore, which is why net collection outpaced the gross figure.

How October Compares

October was the second-biggest month this year, behind April’s Rs 2.43 lakh crore. Collections have now stayed above Rs 2 lakh crore for four months in a row.

For the year so far, from April to October, gross GST has reached Rs 14,77,569 crore. That is 13.2% more than the same seven months last year.

What this means for you: If you sell consumer products, this is the first clear festive-season demand read since last year’s GST rate cuts. Watch whether the strong October pulls forward November sales or simply borrowed from them.
