VC Powerhouses Driving India’s Startup Momentum

India, now the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, has unveiled the 2025 Power List of VC Leaders, celebrating those who are shaping the country’s innovation economy.

The list recognises early-stage evangelists who fuel ideas at the seed stage, as well as global heavyweights who write big late-stage cheques for unicorns and IPO-ready startups. Together, these leaders represent the backbone of India’s venture capital engine, moving billions into sectors from SaaS to fintech, climate tech, and AI.

The Leaders Behind The Capital

Among the names topping the 2025 list are:

  • Rajan Anandan (Peak XV/Surge): Driving one of India’s largest early-stage platforms, nurturing 140+ startups.
  • Shekhar Kirani (Accel India): A champion of SaaS-first and enterprise tech founders.
  • Sanjay Nath (Blume Ventures): Supporting frontier deeptech, space, and healthtech bets.
  • Prashanth Prakash (Accel/Elevation): A long-time voice in consumer internet and policy advocacy.

On the late-stage side, Scott Shleifer (Tiger Global), Bejul Somaia (Lightspeed India), and Sumer Juneja (SoftBank Vision Fund) continue to remain critical in powering India’s unicorn factory.

Beyond Money: Mentors, Ecosystem Builders & Policy Voices

Unlike past lists focused only on cheque sizes, the 2025 edition highlights founder-first leadership. These VC leaders were recognised for:

  • Mentorship & Guidance to first-time founders.
  • Policy Influence, shaping India’s startup regulations and capital markets.
  • Ecosystem Building, from accelerators to university-led innovation programs.

As India braces for a wave of tech IPOs, AI-driven startups, and climate innovation in 2025, these venture capital leaders will play a decisive role in where and how capital flows.
