Sequoia Capital led Etched’s Series C as the AI-chip company prepares to scale inference-cluster production and begin shipping its first racks.

Quick Take

  • Etched raised $300 Mn (Rs 2,899 Cr) in a Series C led by Sequoia Capital.
  • Valuation hit $10.3 Bn (Rs 99,527 Cr), doubling from $5 Bn in seven months.
  • Funds will scale production of inference clusters, with first racks shipping this summer.

AI chip company Etched raises $300 Mn (Rs 2,899 Cr) in a Series C round led by Sequoia Capital at a $10.3 Bn (Rs 99,527 Cr) valuation, announced on July 23, 2026.

The round included Andreessen Horowitz, Jane Street, Diffusion, Argo, and memory maker SK Hynix, according to the company announcement on Etched’s Progress page. Etched says this is the highest valuation ever recorded for a Sequoia-led Series C. The company builds rack-scale inference clusters that compete with Nvidia hardware.

StartupFeed Insight

The number that matters is not the valuation, it is the seven-month doubling from $5 Bn to $10.3 Bn against only $1 Bn in signed contracts. That ratio tells you investors are pricing the inference shift, not current revenue. SK Hynix joining as a backer is the real signal, because a memory supplier taking equity in a customer usually means allocation certainty on HBM. Indian fabless founders and ISM 2.0 policy watchers should track this closely. StartupFeed expects Etched to close a follow-on round above $15 Bn before March 2027, provided its first racks ship on schedule this summer. By Avinash.

Etched Raises $300 Mn: Deal Breakdown

A Series C is the third institutional funding round a startup raises, usually to scale manufacturing or distribution. Etched closed this round at a $10 Bn pre-money valuation, taking total capital raised past $1.1 Bn, EE Times reported.

Metric Detail Notes
Total Raise $300 Mn (Rs 2,899 Cr) Company announcement, July 23, 2026
Lead Investor Sequoia Capital Highest valuation for a Sequoia-led Series C
Round Type Series C Post-money valuation $10.3 Bn (Rs 99,527 Cr)
Other Participants a16z, Jane Street, Diffusion, Argo, SK Hynix Company announcement
Previous Round $500 Mn at $5 Bn, December 2025 Disclosed at stealth exit, June 30, 2026
Cumulative Raised Over $1.1 Bn (Rs 10,629 Cr) EE Times

The most striking fact is the timeline. Etched exited stealth on June 30, 2026, and closed this round inside four weeks. Valuation doubled in roughly seven months.

About Etched

Etched designs and builds frontier inference clusters, combining custom chips, memory systems, racks, cooling, interconnects, and software. Harvard dropouts Gavin Uberti, Chris Zhu, and Robert Wachen founded the company in 2022. It is headquartered in San Jose, California, employs over 400 engineers, and sells hardware directly to large AI labs. Backers include Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, and SK Hynix.

Why did Sequoia back Etched?

Sequoia backed Etched because inference, the process of running trained AI models, is becoming the larger share of AI compute spending. Enterprises are shifting budgets from training runs to serving models at scale, which favours purpose-built silicon over general-purpose GPUs (Graphics Processing Units).

“Now is the time to be aggressive. Our chips work, people want them, and it’s time to ship,” said Gavin Uberti, co-founder and CEO of Etched.

Sequoia’s Sonya Huang ran over 50 diligence calls with customers and suppliers before approaching the company. Etched had already booked $1 Bn (Rs 9,663 Cr) in signed customer contracts at its stealth exit, EE Times reported. That order book, not a pitch deck, anchored the round.

How will Etched use the funds?

Etched will use the capital to scale production and customer deployments. The company has opened an 80,000 square foot facility in Milpitas, 15 minutes from its San Jose office, alongside a Taiwan factory set up earlier in 2026.

The Milpitas site runs at 10 megawatts and will host an NPI (New Product Introduction) lab and an in-house SMT (Surface Mount Technology) line. Etched has kicked off fabrication worth hundreds of millions of dollars in inference clusters, according to its company announcement. First racks ship this summer.

Two technologies sit at the core. Low Voltage Inference runs math blocks at under half the voltage of typical AI chips, lifting FLOP density without thermal throttling. Cluster Scale Memory builds a hybrid SRAM and HBM pool shared across a whole cluster rather than a single chip.

Who competes with Etched in AI inference?

Etched competes in a crowded field of Nvidia challengers, all betting that specialised inference silicon beats general-purpose GPUs on cost per token.

Company Approach Status
Etched Rack-scale inference clusters, LVI plus CSM $10.3 Bn valuation, $1 Bn order book
Cerebras Systems Wafer-scale engine Deployed with cloud partners
Groq Language processing units Absorbed into Nvidia’s portfolio via licensing

What separates Etched is vertical integration. It sells full racks rather than chips, controlling packaging, cold plates, and interconnects in one design.

What’s Next

Etched ships its first racks this summer, the single milestone that decides whether the $10.3 Bn price holds. India watchers have a parallel test. The India Semiconductor Mission has approved projects worth over Rs 1.60 lakh crore across six states, and Semicon India 2026 runs from September 17 to 19, 2026. Can an Indian fabless startup reach frontier inference scale by 2030?

Frequently Asked Questions

How much did Etched raise in its Series C?
+

Etched raises $300 Mn (Rs 2,899 Cr) in its Series C round, announced on July 23, 2026. Sequoia Capital led the round at a $10.3 Bn post-money valuation. Andreessen Horowitz, Jane Street, Diffusion, Argo, and SK Hynix also participated, per the company announcement.

What does Etched do?
+

Etched builds frontier inference clusters for running large AI models. The San Jose company designs custom chips, memory systems, racks, cooling, and interconnects as a single co-designed product. Founded in 2022 by Gavin Uberti, Chris Zhu, and Robert Wachen, it sells complete racks rather than standalone chips.

How will Etched use the new funding?
+

Etched will scale production and customer deployments with the capital. It has opened a 10 megawatt, 80,000 square foot facility in Milpitas for an NPI lab and an in-house SMT line, adding to a Taiwan factory. First racks ship this summer against over $1 Bn in signed contracts.

Why is SK Hynix investing in an AI chip startup?
+

SK Hynix supplies the high-bandwidth memory used inside Etched hardware, making the investment a supply chain move. Etched’s Cluster Scale Memory design pairs SRAM with HBM across a full cluster. Equity in a customer typically secures memory allocation for both sides during tight supply cycles.

Who competes with Etched after it raises $300 Mn?
+

Nvidia remains the primary competitor, alongside inference specialists Cerebras Systems and Groq. Etched differentiates by selling full rack systems rather than individual chips. Its Low Voltage Inference and Cluster Scale Memory technologies target power and memory bottlenecks that cap how much AI compute the market can afford.
