The Bihar cabinet has approved giving 700 acres of government land in Barauni to the state Industries Department. The land will be used to build a new industrial area in Begusarai district.

The decision was taken on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. It was one of 27 proposals cleared that day, according to a statement reported by Prabhat Khabar.

The land sits in Malhipur mauja in the Barauni circle. It is classed as gairmajarua khas, meaning government land. The transfer to the Industries Department is free of cost and permanent.

The state government expects the move to bring new industries to the area. It also hopes the project will create local jobs.

Barauni is already an industrial town. It is home to the Barauni Refinery, a Barauni thermal power station, and the HURL fertiliser plant. The town sits on the bank of the Ganga in Begusarai.

The 700 acres give the district a large land base for future industrial use. The government has not yet named the industries that will set up there.

The Begusarai decision was part of a wider set of approvals. The same cabinet meeting cleared several other projects across Bihar.

A road over bridge, or ROB, was approved in Sitamarhi. It will replace level crossing number 56 between Parsauni and Sitamarhi stations. The project cost is Rs 110.42 crore.

The cabinet also cleared 25 acres in Arwal for a government medical college and hospital. The land goes to the Health Department. It is located in the Karpi circle of Arwal district.

The Bihar Student Credit Card scheme was extended for five more years. It will now run from 2026-27 to 2030-31. The scheme gives students an education loan of up to Rs 4 lakh.

In Patna, the cabinet approved widening the Nehru Path. The stretch runs from Dak Bungalow crossing to Rukanpura. The estimated cost is Rs 39.80 crore.

What this means for Begusarai: A 700-acre industrial site could bring new factories and jobs to Barauni over the coming years. The next step is for the Industries Department to plan the area and invite units.
