StartupFeed Quick Take

  • StartupFeed counted 115 city-tagged openings on five startup career boards on 3 November 2026
  • Bengaluru took 99 of them, Pune 16 and Chennai 1
  • Seven more boards would not open, so this is a five-company count and not a market count

Meesho had 48 of its 51 open roles tagged to Bengaluru on 3 November, the largest single-city block in a five-company count.

StartupFeed opened five startup career boards that day and counted every listing by hand. Meesho’s board carried 51 postings. Razorpay listed 27 roles. Mindtickle’s board holds 19.

Across the five boards, 115 openings named one of three cities. Bengaluru took 99. Pune took 16. Chennai took 1.

Read that Chennai figure with care. It is shaped by which websites opened, not by what Chennai employers are doing, and the reason sits further down this page.

Meesho jobs and what the other four boards showed

Meesho jobs sat almost entirely in one city. Of 51 postings, 48 named Bengaluru. The other three went to Delhi NCR, Surat and Jaipur.

Meesho’s board offers no Pune filter and no Chennai filter. Those cities are not in its location list at all.

Ten of Meesho’s postings are tech roles, including two Data Scientist III posts and three engineering manager posts. Nine are finance and legal roles. Six are product roles.

Razorpay’s 27 roles lean the other way. Twenty named Bengaluru, two named Mumbai and one named Chennai. Four sat outside India, in Malaysia and Singapore, and were left out of every column.

Only four Razorpay roles are engineering roles, and one of those is in Malaysia. The rest of the board is banking, sales and finance work.

Groww listed nine roles. Eight named Bengaluru. The ninth said only “India” with no city, so it went in no column.

Freshworks is counted only in part. Its board showed 13 Bengaluru roles, then stopped loading before it reached Chennai and Pune.

One Freshworks figure did come through. Its product and engineering filter showed three Chennai roles against two in Bengaluru. In engineering alone, at that company, Chennai was ahead.

Mindtickle is a Pune company hiring in Bengaluru

Mindtickle’s board holds 19 postings. Pune appears on 16 of them. Bengaluru appears on 10.

Those two numbers add up to more than 19 because seven postings name both cities. The Lead Product Designer role lists Bengaluru and Pune together. So does the Group Product Manager role. Each was counted once for each city.

Mindtickle’s head office is in Pune. It still put Bengaluru on more than half its board, across design, product, security and sales.

Two further Mindtickle roles were tagged Remote US and Remote Canada. Both were left out, because this count covers India only.

This is the one finding here a reader cannot lift from a press release. A Pune company is hiring hard in Bengaluru.

Why this count says nothing about Chennai

Chennai shows one opening. That single role is a banking alliances analyst post at Razorpay.

StartupFeed set out to read twelve boards. Seven would not open, because their job lists need JavaScript to appear.

Zoho, Chargebee and Kissflow are three of the seven. All three have their head office in Chennai. So no Chennai company was counted in full, and Freshworks, the fourth, was read only as far as its Bengaluru roles.

Icertis, Druva, FirstCry and Swiggy could not be read either. Three of those four are Pune companies.

The Bengaluru number carries its own bias. Three of the five boards counted belong to Bengaluru companies, and a Bengaluru company posts Bengaluru jobs. Meesho alone supplies 48 of the 99.

Treat 99, 16 and 1 as a count of five boards. Nothing more.

How we counted, and how to repeat it

The company list and the counting rules were written down before any board was opened, and have not been changed since.

One listing on a company’s own board counts as one opening. Listings on LinkedIn, Naukri or any job board do not count.

A role tagged to two cities counts once for each city, because a reader in either city can apply to it. A role marked “Hybrid, Bengaluru” counts as Bengaluru, since the desk is in the city.

Internships count. Roles outside India do not. A board that cannot be read is written down by name as unread, never filled with an estimate.

Anyone can repeat this. Open the five board addresses in the source list, apply those rules and count. Your number will differ, because boards change every day.

What this means for you: If you are job hunting in Chennai at these five firms, only one of 115 openings named your city. Check the Zoho, Chargebee and Kissflow boards yourself, because this count could not read them.

StartupFeed Insight

The number worth watching is not 99. It is Mindtickle’s 10. A Pune company putting Bengaluru on ten of nineteen postings is a company moving its hiring centre, one role at a time. Freshworks points the same way in reverse, with three Chennai engineering roles against two in Bengaluru. Single-city counts hide both moves. Where a company hires against where it is based is the question this data can actually answer. Watch Mindtickle’s Bengaluru share through the next two quarters. If it passes 60% by March 2027, Pune has lost a home-grown product team to Bengaluru without a single press release.
