The Corporate Mitra Scheme will train 2,000 young para-professionals to give affordable compliance and business support to India’s MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) said in an official statement dated July 27, 2026.
The scheme was announced in the Union Budget 2026-27. The MCA runs it with three professional institutes, ICAI, ICSI and ICoAI, along with IIT Madras. It targets MSMEs in tier 2 and tier 3 cities, where trained compliance help is often hard to find and costly.

The real signal here is not the seat count, it is the price. At Rs 3,000, the MCA is trying to build a low-cost compliance layer that sits below full CA and CS firms. Small-town founders who skip GST, ROC and TDS filings because advice is too pricey are the target. StartupFeed expects the first 2,000-seat batch to fill fast, then a much larger second cohort by early 2027 once host firms and MSMEs report results. Founders in tier 2 and 3 cities should track which local firms take on these trainees, because that is where affordable help will land first. By Soumya Verma.

About the Corporate Mitra Scheme
The Corporate Mitra Scheme was launched by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs under the Union Budget 2026-27. It is delivered on the SWAYAM Plus platform through IITM Pravartak, with ICAI, ICSI and ICoAI providing academic and assessment support. The goal is a national pool of accredited para-professionals who can serve MSMEs. IICA, Shillong acts as the nodal agency for the North East rollout.
Who can apply for the Corporate Mitra Scheme?
Any Indian graduate or final-year graduation student aged 20 to 30 years can apply for the Corporate Mitra Scheme. Registration runs online through the SWAYAM Plus portal on a first-come, first-served basis.
The scheme embodies the vision of a formalised, financially sustainable and thriving MSME sector by creating a strong support ecosystem, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs said in its statement.
Selected candidates complete 150 hours of online learning, then six months of on-the-job training at an ICAI, ICSI or ICoAI member firm. Host firms must pay a minimum stipend, so this is a paid training track, not an unpaid internship. Candidates need a minimum 50% aggregate score to earn the Corporate Mitra certificate.
How will this scheme help MSMEs?
The Corporate Mitra Scheme aims to give MSMEs low-cost help with the non-core parts of running a business. Trained Corporate Mitras will handle regulatory, compliance, financial, taxation, accounting and governance tasks.
Many small firms in tier 2 and 3 cities lose time and money on filings they do not fully understand. By offering affordable, accredited help, the scheme lets owners focus on innovation, expansion and growth while meeting rules with ease, the MCA said. The plan also creates jobs for young graduates in their own regions.
Why the North East focus matters
The Corporate Mitra Scheme sets aside 200 of its 2,000 seats for the North Eastern Region, with a 50% fee concession for NER candidates. This is meant to strengthen the MSME base and lift local employment in a region that often sits far from big professional hubs.
To drive the rollout, IICA, Shillong has been named the nodal agency for the North East. The institute recently held a webinar to spread awareness of the scheme among students, MSMEs and professionals in Arunachal Pradesh, and it will liaise with state governments and industry bodies across the region.
What’s Next
With the first registration window closing on July 31, 2026, the initial 2,000-seat batch will set the tone for the scheme. If MSMEs and host firms report strong results, a larger second cohort could open by early 2027. Will affordable, accredited compliance help finally reach India’s smallest firms at scale?
