- Sarvam AI is in talks to raise $250-300 Mn in a new funding round, The Economic Times reported.

- Sarvam has not confirmed the talks, the round has not closed, and no new investors are named.
Sarvam AI, the Bengaluru company building India’s sovereign AI stack, is in talks to raise $250-300 Mn in a new round.
Sovereign AI means models built and run inside India. The round could value the company at about $3 Bn. That is double the $1.5 Bn mark it reached earlier in 2026.
The rise is bigger over a longer view. In 2023, the company was worth about $110 Mn, when it raised its first $41 Mn. That is a jump of roughly 27 times in under three years.
A close at $3 Bn would make the firm the most valuable AI startup in India. But the deal is not done. The company has not confirmed it, and no new backers are named.
Why Sarvam AI Is Raising Again So Soon
Two things need the cash: bigger models and more compute. The report said those funds would help build larger models and rival global labs. Its next models aim at agentic AI, coding and security.
Training a frontier model in India is costly. Chips and data centres cost the most.
The compute push is not new. Co-founder Pratyush Kumar put it this way after the last round:
“We are assembling the team, the compute, and the deployment engine to make this happen.”

What the Startup Builds for India
Founded in July 2023, Sarvam AI was set up by Vivek Raghavan and Pratyush Kumar. The Bengaluru firm builds large language models made for Indian users. Its two models, Sarvam-30B and Sarvam-105B, were trained from scratch in India and handle 22 Indian languages.
The company showed both models at the India AI Impact Summit in February 2026. It has also built a consumer assistant called Indus.
The buyers are large regulated firms, not phone users. On its own site, Sarvam AI lists LIC, SBI Life, IDFC First Bank, Tata Capital and CRED as partners. These are insurers, lenders and a payments app that want AI in Indian languages.
Who Already Backs Sarvam AI
The startup is not short of money. Backers from 2023 include Lightspeed, Peak XV Partners and Khosla Ventures. Its last round, about $300 Mn at a $1.5 Bn valuation, was led by HCLTech, with Nvidia, Amazon and Bessemer Venture Partners joining.
StartupFeed reported in August that a $74 Mn Nvidia top-up closed that round. The company also runs on Nvidia H100 chips, bought through Yotta Data Services. It is one of a few startups chosen under the IndiaAI Mission, the government’s Rs 10,000 crore programme.
A Valuation That Has Risen 27 Times Since 2023
Sarvam AI’s value has climbed fast in three years. The table below shows each round, from 2023 to the talks now.
| When | Amount raised | Valuation |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | $41 Mn | About $110 Mn |
| Earlier in 2026 | About $300 Mn | $1.5 Bn |
| Now (in talks) | $250-300 Mn | About $3 Bn |
The race is crowded. Krutrim, led by Bhavish Aggarwal, became India’s first AI unicorn in January 2024. Gnani.ai and the BharatGen group are building rival models too.
But none has reached the valuation Sarvam AI is now said to be chasing. A close at $3 Bn would set a fresh mark for the sector.
What this means for you: If you are an Indian AI founder or investor pricing a deep-tech round, Sarvam AI’s number is the new ceiling to benchmark against. Watch for a signed term sheet or a filing before you treat the $3 Bn as real.
StartupFeed Insight
The number to watch is not $3 Bn. It is the gap of about two months between Sarvam AI’s last close and this reported raise. India’s investors are repricing the sovereign-AI bet faster than any single company can spend the money. That speed is the real signal, and it carries risk: a valuation set this fast can reset just as fast if revenue lags. Expect the company to either confirm the round or show up in a regulatory filing before the end of December 2026. Founders raising deep-tech money in early 2027 will quote this deal in every pitch.
