The number that matters here is one: River sells a single model and still crossed 50,000 units. That discipline let it jump from 20 to 300 vehicles a day and reach roughly Rs 100 Cr monthly revenue, a rare feat when rivals run four scooters and burn cash on marketing. Legacy manufacturers Bajaj and TVS, plus VCs weighing capital-heavy hardware bets, should watch closely. StartupFeed expects River to open its second plant and launch its first new model by mid-2027, testing whether single-model focus survives a multi-model roadmap. By Avinash.

About River Mobility
River Mobility is a Bengaluru electric two-wheeler maker founded in March 2021 by Aravind Mani and Vipin George. It builds utility-first electric scooters and launched its flagship model, the River Indie, in 2023. The company runs a vertically integrated manufacturing model and has sold more than 50,000 units. Top investors include Yamaha Motor Corporation, Toyota Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, Elev8 Venture Partners and Claypond Capital.
How will River Mobility use the funds?
River Mobility will use the fresh capital to expand its existing factory, build a new greenfield plant, launch new products and improve gross margins toward EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortisation) profitability. Nearly 40% of the round goes to research and development plus factory expansion, co-founder and CEO Aravind Mani told Outlook Business.
“The confidence shown by both our existing and new investors reinforces our belief that there is tremendous opportunity to build India’s first utility and design based mobility brand,” said Aravind Mani, co-founder and CEO, River Mobility.
River is in final talks with state governments for its second facility and expects work to begin within 45 to 60 days. Its current plant should hit full capacity in the next three to four months, Mani said. Monthly revenue has reached about Rs 100 Cr ($11 Mn), with full-year revenue up 330% through March 2026.
How does River Mobility compare with rivals?
River Mobility competes in India’s crowded electric two-wheeler market against Ather Energy, Ola Electric and legacy names Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor. Unlike most rivals, River sells a single model and targets self-employed, utility-focused buyers rather than lifestyle consumers.
| Company | Units Sold (2026, per Vahan) | Model Approach |
|---|---|---|
| TVS Motor | 307,760 | Legacy, multi-model |
| Bajaj Auto | 263,959 | Legacy, multi-model |
| Ather Energy | 200,121 | Multi-model, lifestyle |
| River Mobility | 50,000+ total since 2023 | Single model, utility |
Ather, TVS and Bajaj figures are July 2026 cumulative sales per Vahan data, cited by Reuters via Yahoo Finance. What makes River different is focus: one reliable, low-cost product built for work, not a spread across consumer segments.
What’s Next
River Mobility plans to launch a second premium utility scooter by mid-2027 and is developing a third model. It expects operational profitability once monthly output reaches 20,000 to 25,000 vehicles, a mark Mani targets by 2028 to 2029. The retail network is set to grow from 75 plus stores to over 350 by March 2028. Can a single-model champion keep its cost edge while scaling to three models and 10 times the factory output?
