OpenAI has launched Dots, a new kind of AI agent that works on your tasks all day without waiting for a prompt. Sam Altman showed it at the company’s DevDay event in San Francisco on September 29, 2026.
A Dot runs on GPT-6 Astra, OpenAI’s newest model. Each one gets its own cloud computer and browser. It can connect to more than 4,000 apps. You give it a goal, and it works toward that goal 24/7, learning from your feedback.
One Dot is included with a ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium plan. OpenAI says it does not draw down your normal usage. The company also launched a new Pro tier at $500 a month at the same event.
You set up a Dot in the ChatGPT desktop app. After that, you can talk to it from the mobile app, Slack, or Teams. OpenAI says you can name your first Dot and, later, run teams of Dots together.
Sam Altman put the idea this way in the company’s announcement:

Dots is available today for Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets, according to OpenAI. Enterprise users can try it once a workspace admin approves it. OpenAI has not named India pricing or an India date yet, so Indian users should check their own plan.
The launch lands three weeks after Meta showed its own agent, Muse. For Indian founders, the agent race is not far away. In October 2025, Razorpay, NPCI and OpenAI began a pilot for agent payments on ChatGPT, so an always-on agent that shops and pays is already being built for India.
What this means for you: If you or your team pay for ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium, you now get one always-on agent that can run background work. Watch your India plan for the feature and price, and test one small task before you trust it with real work.
