The Morning Five for Friday, October 9, 2026: what happened in Indian startups since yesterday.
1. Karnataka offers work orders up to Rs 25 Lakh
Karnataka opened the first Government First call on October 8, 2026, offering selected startups work orders up to Rs 25 Lakh. Moneycontrol’s October 8 report lists two challenge areas: Praja Seva citizen services and the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board. The citizen-service tasks include artificial intelligence for complaints, call centres and officer workflows. Applications close October 23, 2026.
Who should care: Karnataka startup founders seeking a government customer should match their ready-to-use products to the challenges before applying.
2. NABVENTURES reaches Rs 450 Cr first close for Fund II
NABVENTURES reached Fund II’s Rs 450 Cr first close on October 8, 2026, with NABARD as the anchor investor. AgroSpectrum’s October 8 report puts the target at Rs 1,500 Cr, including an option to raise extra money. The first close covers 30% of that target. The fund will back early- and growth-stage startups in agritech, rural finance, climate and supply chains.
Who should care: Agritech and rural-finance founders raising capital should check Fund II’s focus before preparing a pitch.
3. Inner Sky Labs unveils 3 physical-AI model classes
Inner Sky Labs, the Indian business behind Miko companion robots, unveiled physical-AI foundation models on October 8, 2026. The Inner Sky Labs platform describes three model classes: perception, action and safety, available through cloud services or on devices. Perception models handle vision, audio and touch, while Kriya plans actions and Kavach checks safety before execution. The offering extends beyond Miko robots.
Who should care: Indian robotics builders evaluating machine-control tools should assess the model stack, deployment options and safety checks.
4. IVCA joins Bharat Pitchathon 2026 and launches National Pulse
The Indian Venture and Alternate Capital Association (IVCA) joined Headstart as Bharat Pitchathon 2026 co-host on October 8, 2026. The Economic Times report names National Pulse as a parallel effort to collect deep-tech founders’ experiences, challenges and priorities. Headstart’s network spans more than 30 cities, including hubs beyond the metros. Founder inputs will cover barriers involving capital, infrastructure, customers, talent and policy.
Who should care: Deep-tech founders outside major metros should track Pitchathon participation and opportunities to contribute their needs to National Pulse.
That’s all for this morning. See you tomorrow.
