StartupFeed Quick Take

  • Jio opened JioPC as a standalone subscription on September 2, 2026, to any internet user in India.
  • Plans start at Rs 1,000 for two months, across two tiers.
  • The top tier gives 8 processors, 16 GB RAM and 1 TB of cloud storage, all on Ubuntu Linux.

Reliance Jio has opened its JioPC cloud PC to every internet user in India, turning old laptops into computers from Rs 1,000.

JioPC first went live in July 2025. Back then only JioHome broadband users could get it. Business Standard reported that anyone with a broadband or mobile line can now subscribe, from September 2, 2026.

The idea is simple. With JioPC, your device becomes a screen, while Jio’s servers do the computing. Plans start at Rs 1,000 for two months, across two tiers.

What the JioPC cloud PC gives you

Jio’s product page lists two setups. The base plan has 4 processors, 8 GB of RAM and 500 GB of storage. The top plan has 8 processors, 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.

Both plans run on Ubuntu Linux, not Windows or macOS. JioPC comes with LibreOffice for documents. You reach Microsoft 365 and Adobe Express through the web browser.

There are limits. JioPC needs an always-on internet connection, and it will not run installed Windows programs. It has no dedicated graphics chip, so it is not built for gaming.

What this means for you: If you are a student or small-business owner nursing a slow, ageing laptop, JioPC can give you a faster machine without buying one. Start on the Rs 1,000 two-month plan, and test the web apps you need before you rely on it.
