StartupFeed Quick Take
- The CoreWeave India plan puts 240 MW across three 80 MW buildings at AdaniConneX’s Taloja campus in Navi Mumbai, with an option to reach 480 MW.
- The first phase is due in mid-2028 and runs NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform; CoreWeave named no investment figure.
- CoreWeave will also set up an India office and hire locally, adding in-country GPU capacity that Indian AI firms can rent.
CoreWeave, the US AI cloud firm, is entering India with a plan to build 240 megawatts of data centre capacity in Navi Mumbai.
The deal, announced on October 7, 2026, hands AdaniConneX the landlord role and NVIDIA the chip supply. AdaniConneX is a 50:50 joint venture between Adani Enterprises and the US operator EdgeConneX.
The site is large. CoreWeave will take three buildings of 80 MW each, and holds an option to add another 240 MW, which would lift it to 480 MW.
India’s entire operational data centre base was about 1.8 GW in mid-2026, so this one campus is sized at roughly an eighth of it. The first phase is only due in mid-2028, and the company has put no price on the project.
Sachin Jain, who runs operations at CoreWeave, framed the move around local talent.
“India has the talent, developers, and ambition to become a major center of AI innovation.”

What CoreWeave Is Building at the Taloja Campus
The capacity sits at AdaniConneX’s Taloja campus in Navi Mumbai. The firm will be the sole tenant across the three 80 MW buildings. The plan runs on NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform, the chipmaker’s next design, and is built for AI model training, inference, reasoning and agentic work.
The halls are built for heat. The campus design uses direct liquid cooling for the graphics processing unit (GPU) data halls and a non-evaporative chilled water system. CoreWeave says the setup can take later generations of AI chips as they arrive.
CoreWeave will also open an office in India and hire locally. The company has not named the city, the team size or a start date. The first data centre phase is due in mid-2028, and the rest arrives in stages.
Why the CoreWeave India Plan Matters for Local AI Founders
For an Indian AI startup, compute is the hard cost. Most rent graphics chips from clouds abroad or from a thin set of local sites. In-country Vera Rubin capacity, once live, gives them a nearer option, with data kept on Indian soil.
The timing fits a wider plan. The investment lines up with the government’s IndiaAI Mission, a Rs 10,371.92 crore programme cleared in March 2024 to widen access to compute. The gap it targets is the one CoreWeave is selling into.
Adani is building for the same demand. Adani Group said on February 17, 2026 it would invest $100 Bn by 2035 in AI data centres. The plan lifts AdaniConneX from a 2 GW platform towards a 5 GW target.
Adani has also said a large share of that GPU capacity is set aside for Indian startups and researchers. The CoreWeave deal is one tenant inside that plan.
AdaniConneX is not short of marquee tenants. The venture also anchors Adani’s gigawatt-scale data centre project for Google in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
How 240 MW Sits in India’s Data Centre Build-Out
Scale is the point. India’s operational data centre stock stood at about 1.8 GW in the first half of 2026, and Mumbai is its largest single market. CoreWeave’s first 240 MW equals roughly an eighth of that national base, before any use of the doubling option.
| Benchmark | Capacity | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Navi Mumbai campus, first phase | 240 MW | Three 80 MW buildings, planned |
| Navi Mumbai campus, full option | 480 MW | If another 240 MW is added |
| India operational base, mid-2026 | About 1.8 GW | Savills India estimate |
| AdaniConneX existing platform | About 2 GW | Per Adani, February 2026 |
| Adani Group target by 2035 | 5 GW | Across Indian campuses |
Against Adani’s own 5 GW target, the full 480 MW option would be about a tenth. Against India’s current base, the share is far larger.
CoreWeave’s Wider Push Beyond the United States
India is the latest stop in a fast build-out. In August 2026, CoreWeave announced three data centres in Indonesia with a combined 360 MW, also due in 2028. The company reported about 4.2 GW of contracted power worldwide as of August 11, 2026, up from about 3.7 GW at the end of June.
CoreWeave is a neocloud, a specialist that rents out AI computing rather than general IT. The company was founded in 2017 and listed on the Nasdaq in March 2025 under the ticker CRWV. The India investment will total several billion dollars over the project’s life, according to a Bloomberg report, though CoreWeave gave no figure.
What this means for you: If you build or scale AI in India and rent GPUs abroad today, a nearer, data-resident option is coming, but not before 2028. Plan your next two years of compute as if this capacity does not yet exist, and watch whether Adani’s promised startup GPU share lands first.
StartupFeed Insight
The headline is the 240 MW. The real signal is the shape of the commitment: a global neocloud has agreed to be the sole tenant of three buildings, not to test one hall. That is a vote on Indian demand through 2028, not on today’s. For founders the catch is timing. The capacity that matters to them is two years out, so the compute squeeze does not ease now. The number to watch is not CoreWeave’s 480 MW option but AdaniConneX’s startup GPU allocation. Expect at least one more foreign neocloud to sign an India campus before the end of 2027.
